Manipal Student Slams Professor Who Compared Him To A Terrorist Because Of His Muslim Name

In today’s episode of ‘humans kab sudhrenge’, we present to you a video of a professor mocking a boy for his religion inside a classroom full of students.

The incident happened at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) in Udupi, Manipal, Karnataka. In the video that has now gone viral, the student in question was seen confronting the professor after he compared him to the terrorist ‘Kasab’ during the class.

According to NDTV, the professor had asked the student his name. On hearing a Muslim name, he said, “Oh, you are like Kasab!”

For context, Ajmal Kasab was a Pakistani terrorist involved in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008. He was executed in 2012.

When the boy retaliated saying how can the professor talk about his religion that too in such a terrible manner, the teacher responds, “You’re just like my kid” adding that it’s a funny thing.

Furious by his response, the boy says, “No it’s not funny. 26/11 was not funny. Being a Muslim in this country and facing this every day is not funny.” The teacher again says, “You’re just like my son.”

The boy replies, “Will you talk like that to your son? Will you call him a terrorist? How can you call me like that in front of so many people? This is a class, you’re professional, and you’re teaching. You can’t call me that.” After being schooled by the student, the teacher told him ‘sorry’.

After the video went viral, people extensively criticized the professor and urged the institute to take necessary disciplinary actions against him.

Soon after, MIT suspended the professor and ordered an internal inquiry. The concerned faculty member has been debarred from taking classes till the completion of the probe.

According to a report by India Today, SP Kar, Director of Public Relations at Manipal University, said, “We condemn such kind of incidents as we are an institute that believes in sarwa dharma (equal respect to all religions) and vasudhaiva kutumbkam (one world, one family). Appropriate action is being taken on this issue and we are doing the needful. Counseling is being given to the student, and the professor has been suspended from the college.”

This shows the sad reality of our country. If teachers, who are bestowed with the responsibility of teaching kids the difference between right and wrong, indulge in such shameful activities then how will India change?
