Priyanka Thakur, Woman With 54% Physical Disability, Is On Her Way To Becoming A Judge

For people with disabilities, finding a job in itself is a real task. They might be a pool of talent that most companies neglect due to prejudice. However, there are many people with disabilities who are geniuses in their own field, the famous Stephen Hawking for example. They have the grit and the intelligence to excel in their field and it’s high time we recognise those who do.

Having said that, Priyanka Thakur, a woman with 54% physical disability, is on her way to becoming a judge.

According to a report by The Statesman, Priyanka is a PhD scholar in Law from Himachal Pradesh University who recently was selected for Himachal Pradesh Judicial Service.

She completed her LLB from HP University Regional Centre at Dharamsala and LLM from HPU Shimla campus. She even qualified UGC NET, a very difficult exam required to crack when someone wants to pursue research.

Priyanka comes from a remote village named Vadala of Indora in Kangra district. She belongs to a humble family where her father is a retired Inspector of BSF and the mother is a homemaker. She is also associated with the Umang Foundation, a public welfare trust for the disabled.

She revealed that she dedicated long hours to self-study. She didn’t take tuitions for judicial services either. Priyanka gives all the credit for her success to her parents, teachers, and the “emerging disabled-friendly environment” on the campus.

“People normally ignore women and especially with disabilities. But if you have self-determination and confidence, you can achieve any heights,” she said.

Priyanka Thakur should be held as an example for all those who suffer from disabilities themselves and hence have low self-esteem at times. She is also an answer to all those who question the intelligence of people like her!
