We Indians love our desi food so much that any ched-chaad with it makes us mad, really, really MAD! Probably that’s why when Indian-origin YouTuber & comedian Lilly Singh compared ‘Extra Spicy’ Indian food to ‘McSpicy Paneer’, people roasted her.
Well, this time it’s American politician Pramila Jayapal who is facing the wrath of disappointed Indians for wrongly attributing a desi dish.
Pramila, who was born in Chennai, India, recently shared a picture of her version of a ‘Paneer Tikka’. According to her tweet, she prepared the comfort food in honor of Asian-Indian politician Kamala Harris after she said on Instagram that her favorite North Indian food is any kind of tikka.
Compulsive, night-before-election activity: make comfort food. That’s paneer tikka tonight, in honor of electing #KamalaHarris Veep tomorrow since she just said on Instagram that her favorite North Indian food is any kind of tikka! Let’s go, people! VOTE! #BidenHarris2020 pic.twitter.com/gqyT7BotgG

Well, the masaledaar bowl of paneer curry failed to impress desis online. People immediately corrected her that it’s not what authentic ‘Paneer Tikka’ looks like.
THIS IS NOT PANEER TIKKA

The one you cooked can be called anything but Paneer Tikka. Posted a picture for your future reference.
Next time better watch youtube videos of Chef Vikas Khanna or Sanjeev Kapoor instead of posting such theatrics to fool India American voters. pic.twitter.com/pLyuficYAI

Sorry, but that is not paneer tikka by any stretch of the imagination. It’s a malai paneer, at best or a paneer tikka masala.

A new type of paneer tikka 😋 u guys just trying to setup a different narrative in every possible way. Plz leave Indian cuisine for your benefits 🙄. BTW u can ask chef vikas Khanna .

Guys, I figured out what happened.
Pramila ordered malai paneer from a restaurant and called it paneer tikka. She didn’t cook this. That is why she doesn’t know what the dish is. https://t.co/8A3Bdh5WHw— Nitayuvani Celebrating Diwali! (@nitayuvani) November 3, 2020
Others took the sarcastic route and roasted her by wrongly naming different Indian food items. For example, someone attributed a pic of momos to Pav Bhaji.

Pramila also pinned the recipe she used to make the dish.
By popular demand, the recipe for Paneer Tikka Masala, slightly adapted from the fabulous @twosleevers! You can either eat the tikka on its own, or add the masala (sauce) which is like a curry. Enjoy! pic.twitter.com/0tNyEZOWN4

A Twitter user highlighted how the preparation of Indian dishes has changed outside the country.

Well, the sarcastic quotient in this thread is skyrocketing. What do you think about this? Tell us.
