Porsche Owner Pays ₹27.68 Lakh Fine After Ahmedabad Police Catches Him Without Documents

The Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill, that imposes hefty fines on traffic rules violators, has ensured that we efficiently follow traffic rules. And for those who still don’t follow the rules they end by paying hefty fines like this man from Delhi who paid Rs.23,000 for riding helmet-less and not carrying his RC.

If you think that’s a huge amount, read this. A Porsche owner was stopped at Helmet crossroads in Ahmedabad as the car did not have number plates. On being questioned by the traffic police, the driver failed to produce valid documents of the vehicle too, reports NDTV.

The car was detained and issued an RTO memo under the Motor Vehicles Act in November last year. Initially, a fine of Rs 9.8 lakh was slapped, but then the RTO dug out old records and imposed a penalty of Rs 27.68 lakhs on the car owner.

Police sub-inspector M B Virja was quoted by The Indian Express saying, “This car was imported in 2017. Though the owner had initially registered the vehicle in Haryana, the number plates were missing when the car was impounded. Since the car is now in Gujarat, the RTO calculated the lifetime tax, interest on unpaid tax and penalty at Rs 27.68 lakh. The owner took back his car on Tuesday after showing us the receipt.”

Ranjit Desai, the owner of the Porsche 911 sports car paid Rs 27.68 lakh towards pending taxes, interest and penalty to get back his impounded vehicle. After paying the fine to the Ahmedabad Regional Transport Office (RTO), Ranjit collected his car from the city traffic police.

The Ahmedabad traffic police claimed that the fine collected by them was the highest ever in India. We’re just glad that the owner of the luxury car paid his dues instead of bribing the cops.
