2 Years & 10 Months Sober, Pooja Bhatt Pens Emotional Note On Overcoming Alcoholism

Once a popular face on silver screens for her impactful performances in ‘Daddy’, ‘Sadak’ and ‘Dil Hai K Manta Nahi’, Pooja Bhatt has been away from Indian movies for quite some time now. But the actress has been actively updating her fans about her personal life on social media.

Actress Pooja Bhatt has time and again spoken openly about her alcohol addiction. An actor and filmmaker, Bhatt, 47, recently took to Instagram to pen down an emotional note. In her post, Bhatt says she is “two years and ten months sober today.”

The actress shared two pictures and wrote:

Two years & ten months sober today.. time to reflect on the past & absorb the now.. Kal Kisne Dekha after all? To any and all of you who are battling your demons & grappling with addiction issues, know that you’re not alone. If I could do it, you can too. And if you flounder or fall, pick yourself up and keep going.. the rewards are multiple in more ways than one!

It is not the first time that Bhatt has spoken about battling alcoholism. According to News18, Bhatt has earlier said in a press conference that, “It is not alcohol you are addicted to, it’s the absence of absence.”

She further added, “I stopped drinking by first acknowledging that I had a drinking problem. Because you are a woman and you live in a society where they are always taught or forced to brush things under the carpet.”

“We tend to bury this shameful habit that we have of covering it up and say, ‘Oh, we don’t have a problem, it is somebody else’s and I am not that drunk’.”

“All of us somewhere are lonely. Some expect a man to find the answer while some find it easily in the bottle of alcohol. It seems very gratifying, it pulls you and before you know it, you are down the rabbit hole and it is difficult to come back.”

On the career front, the actress will be next seen in father Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Sadak 2’, the sequel of her film ‘Sadak’. It is scheduled to be released by July 2020. Pooja will be returning to the silver screen after a gap of 18 years. All the best, Pooja.
