The Polar Vortex has turned most of North America into a scene straight out of Frozen! Viral videos show boiling water freezing, wet hair turning into ice, Niagara Falls turning into the Wall from Game of Thrones, and what not! Stepping outside remains a risky and bone-chillingly painful experience.
However, folks from the upper midwest have succumbed to a new online challenge – freezing their pants! Positioning them in all sorts of ways, these guys are having some fun in the otherwise torturous weather!
One Instagrammer in Minnesota asked, “What else do you do when it’s this cold?”
According to sources, a man called Tom Grotting came up with the idea of freezing pants 6 years ago. He says outside temperatures need to reach below 0 degrees F before the pants will stand on their own.

The way these pants are positioned is the best way to scare an annoying neighbour!
And it’s not just pants. People are freezing T-shirts, police uniforms, and karate uniforms as well!

“Life doesn’t exactly stop but it sort of slows down. When it lasts a couple days you can go stir crazy, so your mind thinks of things to do”, says Grotting.
This week the wind chill in Minneapolis, from where Grotting belongs, went down to 55 degrees below Fahrenheit. It’s beautiful to see people trying to have a laugh during such a tough time!
