Man Shares Proof Of ‘Plastic Rice’ In Assam, Video Shows Rice Ball Bouncing Off The Floor

Gone are the days when we could trust food that we bought from shops which were properly wrapped and sealed. However, adulteration of food has unfortunately become a common occurrence with harmful substances being mixed in food items which has led to the common people being paranoid about everything that they put in their body. Remember the gutter vegetables discovered in Mumbai?

The latest scandal in this respect is ‘plastic rice’. Instances of plastic rice being found in different places have been going viral and as far as India is concerned, no credible sources have been found just yet. Moreover, ‘plastic rice’ has not been unearthed from anywhere, although there are numerous claims.

Among this hullabaloo, yet another instance of ‘plastic rice’ surfaced in Assam and was shared by a local news channel anchor., Nandan Pratim Sharma Bordoloi.

In the video, a man can be seen making a ball of rice, which he claims as ‘plastic’. He proceeds to then throw the ‘ball’ on the floor only to see it bounce back like a plaything.

According to a report in The Hindu, the scandal first surfaced in China and was known as the Wuchang rice scandal where people passed off ordinary rice as premium rice by adding flavour to it.

But it has escalated to a point where people are scared potatoes, sweet potatoes and plastic are being mixed with rice which is a hazardous combination, as you would be essentially consuming synthetic resin.

Is this a legitimate concern or just a way to fame like the ‘plastic in Kurkure’ scandal? Either way, you just can’t ignore it because even fact-checking website Snopes says it’s undecided on the legitimacy of the claims, which means it might just be true too!
