Doctors Surgically Remove 3 Kgs Of Petroleum Jelly A Man Injected To Have ‘Popeye Biceps’

As kids, most of us were fond of ‘Popeye – The Sailor Man’ and his impressive physique, most importantly his massive biceps. And as a kid, I always wanted to have a body-builder friend like him! Apparently, a lot of people dreamt of having a body like Popeye!

Kirill Tereshin, a 23-year-old Russian bodybuilder is one of them, who not only dreamt of but also achieved a physique like Popeye including his biceps. But the problem was, these muscles weren’t natural or a result of gallons of spinach just like Popeye. They were made by injecting 3 kgs of cheap petroleum jelly in his arms, reports The Sun.

Alana Mamaeva, a leading campaigner for victims of botched plastic surgery spotted Kirill’s condition and pressurized him to get his oil-injected fake biceps removed. “We are going to try and help this young man,” she said.

Accordingly, Kirill was operated by Dr. Melnikov from Sechenov Moscow State Medical University. “For now I have removed the damaged tissues from one arm only. Petroleum jelly saturates the muscles, under skin tissues and the skin itself. All that has to be removed, but we need to keep the vein, nerves and other functions of the limb,” the doctor said.

Explaining the after-effects of injecting petroleum jelly in Kirill’s arms, the doctor explained, “Petroleum jelly is not designed for injection, only external application. Kirill injected about three litres into each arm. It saturated the muscle tissues, blocked blood flow. As a result the tissue dies and gets replaced with a scar which is as tough as a tree, you can even knock on it and hear the usual sound. We have removed all this. He had a high fever, strong pain, and weakness.”

If not operated, Kirill may have died after amputation, the doctor said, reports News 18.

“Petroleum jelly affects the whole body, kidneys in particular. I think Kirill did not fully realize the consequences of what he had been doing. He underwent a complex two-hour operation and faces “several more surgeries”, said the doctor.

Warning others about the harmful effects of petroleum jelly, the medic said, “It is traumatic for the body, leading to huge scars and without medical treatment, it ends even with death.”

“Unfortunately, this is not a rare case. In the whole, our country women are often injected with petroleum jelly and so get disfigured. Instead of expensive plastic surgery, they agree to petroleum jelly injections and later come to us to remove it, he added.

“We have seen petroleum jelly injected into breasts, buttocks, and other parts of the female body. We are warning that it is extremely dangerous, he further said.

Artificial muscles could be a great risk to your life and Kirill’s case is proof! We hope people like Kirill understand the dangerous consequences of fake muscles and avoid the temptations of bulking up using shady means.
