Whether it’s in relationships, a job, or a college application, getting rejected is one of the most heartbreaking things one can go through. Rejection can give your self-esteem a massive hit. One even begins to question their self-worth. For those who can deal with rejections – good for you. For the rest of us, it just leaves us with this deep black hole which is extremely difficult to get over.
People on Twitter are talking about their rejection stories and they are straight-up upsetting. So, it began with this one user who popped a question for everyone – “What is your harshest rejection”.
What was your harshest rejection?
I’ll go first. One time, a super charming guy I had a crush on took me out to dinner a few times, invited me to a swanky gala, had me over for Thanksgiving, and then introduced me to his buddy as “a girl I wish was my sister”.

And Twitter delivered. Have a look:

In 7th grade I was invited to a slumber party. The mom came home from work, said "There is no slumber party." We all got in the van for her to take us home. She took me home first. I found out later she took all the other girls back for the slumber party.

My grad school office mate @vasabjit_b and I both received a rejection for an academic job that started "Dear Failed Applicant" and repeated in every imaginable way how we were not chosen, not excellent, and should not move to said country for this job.

A super handsome guy that I thought looked like a young Paul Newman took me to sushi. He seemed uncomfortable during dinner and then said “Ever think someone is cute until you get up close and realize they just have a ton of freckles?” I have a ton of freckles.

Johns Hopkins sent me a rejection letter that read: “We read many talented writers this application cycle. Unfortunately, you were not one of them. We hope you made other plans.”

In 6th grade the girls I normally ate lunch with cornered me one morning and presented me with a petition they’d all signed, demanding that I no longer sit with them.
They read it.

After I was carried out of the Kavanaugh confirmation hearing for protesting, I got home + my husband of over a decade said, "We need to talk. What will everyone think? How do I explain this?" I said, "I have nothing to apologize for." He said, "I'm done."
I never saw it coming.

My fiance bought a house without telling me. So, I took that as a subtle hint.

Ugh! I moved in w/my boyfriend of 10 years who lived two hours away from my hometown, he got engaged to another woman from Virginia while we were still in a relationship & living together. We were house hunting and the home we fell in love w/is the home he purchased for his wife.

Short version: my best friend ghosted me (still to this day don't know why). I initially didn't realise that's what was happening. I had been told I needed open heart surgery and called her having a panic attack. Got told she's too busy to deal with this and to just get over it

I’m still collecting on bets I made about my now-ex ending up with this one girl that was “not romantically for him at all” and “just a person he gets along with” when we were together.

I asked a girl out once and she laughed for 3 minutes. At least. After 3 minutes I left. It happened in 1977. For all I know, she's still laughing.

I matched with this girl on Bumble and we hit it off. Talked for weeks until one day she asked me about my semi colon tattoo. I opened up told her about my struggle with depression. She immediately cut me off and said I was toxic and she couldn’t have people like me in her life.

A dude had a crush on me, he came in while I was bartending, nervously asked if we could get a beer when I was done. I said sure.
He spends the next 4 hrs of my shift getting drunk & buying drinks for another girl. They were basically my only customers.
He went home w/ her 😂

I am the queen of unrequited love/falling for unavailable men. My favorite was a guy I liked who said once over dinner, “I wish all girls were like you.” Then proceeded to talk to me about how he wished his new gf was like me.

Amidst the sad tales, what was touching was how other users comforted each other in the comment section. Rejection is just the worst, but it gets a little better with supportive people who are willing to listen to you!
