Some of the most fun advertisements I watched as a kid were that of soft drinks. From Aamir Khan’s ‘Thanda Matlab Coca-Cola’ ad to the Indian Cricket teams Pepsi ad, some of these are remembered by many even today. However, in other countries, advertisements are quite different from what we see here. Here’s how.
Recently, a Filipino RC Cola ad has been turning a lot of heads, reports Times Now. Why? It’s hard to explain. Let me try.
There’s a boy who comes back from school, sobbing and complaining to his mother and asking if he is adopted. He goes on to open his shirt and asks why he has four glasses stuck on his back (WHAT?!).
A teary-eyed mother then goes on to say that she had been hiding it for long and now it is time for him to know. She then goes on to remove her head (Wait, WHAT?!).
And underneath, there’s an RC Cola bottle! She goes on to fill the glasses and later, the entire family drinks from the cups with straws.
Have a look at the video here:
And people online have a lot to say! While many have been left scarred by the commercial, others tried to fathom the various inner meanings of it. A few highlighted that the purpose of a commercial should be to grab attention, which the company did brilliantly!

Watched the RC Cola ad & ngl it’s a bag full of metaphors!
glasses on back = bottled up emotions
mom lifts head = older generations thinking beyond wrong archaic ideas
pouring drink = unburdening
sipping = thirst for vulnerability, honesty & soul at its core pic.twitter.com/XJbcvoxtsZ— Anne (@anneroch13) November 28, 2020

No, that RC Cola ad is not just weird, it's actually brilliant. Everyone's talking about it right now, and that's how ads should work.

Rc cola ad says that even when you feel empty or indifferent or things turn not as you expect it to be, our Mom will always be there to fill-up those emptiness and make us feel that we’re not alone. pic.twitter.com/1c4Pg7IvNz

yall have to admit the fact that RC Cola's goal was to truly shock the social media with weirdness and that is something out of the norms of advertisements. It's always been like cheesy love and sad stories, and they went really out there, kudos to the team who thought of this! pic.twitter.com/GEb1Y9IMXf

I'll be clear here….
production design I give you credit for that
but the advertisement is way too freaky and disturbing.
Why would you use this kind of surrealism in advertisement???
Good job RC cola, thank you for the nightmares!!!! pic.twitter.com/gnzcGwvRpf— Magic Poblete (@MagicManFilms) November 26, 2020
