Mumbai Man’s Post Shows Cops Manhandling Him For Wearing Shorts For Passport Verification

Judging people based on what they wear and policing them for it is not a rare sight. From neighbourhood aunties to Government officials, to the self-proclaimed protectors of sanskaar, policing has become a common occurrence. However, it’s not only celebrities that are subjected to policing but the common man is also not spared.

This is exactly what happened to a man when he went to a police station for a passport verification only to be turned away by the policeman and forcefully removed from the police station because he was wearing shorts.

Mangesh Desale was horrified when he was constantly bombarded by the policemen who told him to dress properly if he wanted his passport verified. He took to Facebook to write about his experience on 4 November 2017. He wrote,

He also recorded the policeman and one other officer reprimanding him for not being ‘dressed properly’.

In one clip the officer can be seen pushing him out of the police station for being in shorts, even after Desale repeatedly asked him what the passport verification had to do with him wearing shorts.

The official told him that wearing shorts was inappropriate as women and children were inside the police station and he’s trying to threaten them by recording them.

While the policemen have complete jurisdiction over their own station, manhandling could have been avoided and the man escorted out properly instead of shoving him out and subjecting him to humiliation in a public setting.
