Bill Worth 90 Lakhs Slammed On Parents For 5 Year Old Son’s Mistake

Admit it, all of you have troubled your parents a lot and to an extent where they had no option but to go mad on you. Be it a parent-teachers meet or a complaint from the neighborhood, our parents have always been at the receiving end because of our tantrums.

However, whatever you may have done, thank God that your parents did not have to deal with the same situation as this couple from Kansas.

A couple from America’s Kansas City has been charged with a monstrous bill of $132,000 (₹ 90 Lakhs) after their son knocked over a glass on display at a community centre. The Kansas City Star quoted the letter sent by an insurance company,

“This loss occurred when your son was in a closed area of the property and toppled a glass sculpture. Under common law in Kansas, you are responsible for the supervision of a minor child and your failure to monitor them during this loss could be considered negligent. The cost of the sculpture damaged is estimated at $132,000.”

The artwork, “Aphrodite di Kansas City.” was on display at the centre on May 19th when the incident took place. At the time of the damage, the minor was not with his parents who were attending a wedding at the same place.

The act was caught on the CCTV camera at the place and the 5-year-old boy can be seen hugging the artwork, resulting it to topple over.

Speaking on his son’s defense, the mother said that there was no protection around the expensive piece of art. It was kept right at the walkway without and “Do Not Touch” board or a line drawn around it. She also said that her son is a loving and sweet boy which made him go and hug the sculpture.

“Maybe my son hugged a torso because he’s a loving, sweet nice boy who just graduated from preschool.”

“It’s in the main walkway. Not a separate room. No plexiglass. Not protected. Not held down. There was no border around it. There wasn’t even a sign around it that said, ‘Do not touch.'”

Bill Lyons, the artist behind the masterpiece examined the damage and said that it cannot be repaired. He also added that he should be reimbursed for the amount of time he spent creating it and it’s absolutely worth it.

Speaking about the same, Overland Park communications manager Sean Reilly said,

“We are NOT seeking payment from the family… Our carrier is simply wanting to contact their insurance provider. If we do not seek payment from their carrier, taxpayers’ money will be used to compensate the artist.”

Here is the CCTV footage:

Labeling the bill as “astronomical” the parents are now waiting for an answer from the insurance company and will wait to see if they take matters to the court.

God, save them!
