Ensuring women’s safety is one the challenging and uphill tasks in India. Women have been a target of many crimes and the government has finally a foolproof plan to avoid that.
The government seems to have taken a plausible step for this much needed and blatantly ignored step. It has planned to install a ‘panic’ button in all smartphones from 2017.
That’s right!
All handsets will be having a panic button installed so that it’s easy for women to notify her family and friends of impending danger that may befall her.
When a woman will press the panic button, her family and friends will get notified with her current location.
This feature will be installed in all smartphones manufactured in 2017. But, there is also a discussion going on about the feature being installed in older and existing phones.
The government is also talking to the different manufacturers so that people can install the feature by going to a service center or just installing it.
This move is initiated after a cauldron of discussions regarding this issue. Ministries of women and child development were a part of this ongoing battle to bring this welcome change.
After the Nirbhaya tragedy in December 2012, the government has been keen to launch this initiative.
Maneka Gandhi, from Women and Child Development Ministry, shared her vision regarding this matter:
Well, let’s see how this plan unfolds.
