Everyone is aware of the ‘sanskari’ stance of Mr. Pahlaj Nihalani, ex-CBFC chief, when he certified films according to the “guidelines” of the CBFC. He had his tenure cut short because of being surrounded with controversies and replaced with lyricist Prasoon Joshi. However, it seems like Mr. Nihalani has finally taken off his mask of conservatism as he is currently associated with erotic thriller Julie 2. Yes, you heard it right!
Apparently, Pahlaj Nihalani is well-acquainted with the director of the film Deepak Shivdasani and was more than happy to distribute the film after seeing it recently with his wife.
On being questioned whether Pahlaj Nihalani maintained his conservative stance on this film as well, Shivdasani told Mumbai Mirror,
“It’s a content-driven film and Pahlajji had no objections to any of the scenes.”
So, no.
Pahlaj Nihalani said that his family loved the film and that the movie under the blanket of its sexual content has a great message about talented people who come into the film industry and are forced to compromise.
This is the same person who banned ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ for being too ‘lady oriented’, because obviously a film about the sexual desires of women will empower them, and that is unacceptable.
He made some ironical requests to the Censor Board for his ‘family entertainer’ and said,
“Julie 2 should be given an ‘A’ certificate without any cuts. There is no vulgarity, obscenity or even a language problem.”
Pahlaj Nihalani sure has some high expectations from the CBFC regarding his own film, and is defending the sexual content in the film when he banned the word ‘intercourse’ in ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ and even chopped a kissing scene in the James Bond movie ‘Spectre’, among several others. Hypocrite much?
Did money change Mr. Nihalani’s priorities? Or did he really develop a broad mindset and finally understood that sexuality is not against ‘culture’?
