Twitter was outraged when veteran actor Om Puri went on record and disrespected every army man who has ever lost his life to ensure the safety of his motherland.
Talking about the recent ban on Pakistani artists, he made an unapologetic comment on a news channel debate against Army men. Om Puri said,
“WE HAVEN’T FORCED THEM TO JOIN ARMY.”
He received major backlash from Twitter and people could not stop themselves from criticizing Om Puri, who had such insensitive things to say about brave Army men.
Dear #OmPuri ji. Mai aapki bahut izzat karta hoon. Lekin kal tv per desh ke sainik ke baare mein aapki baat sunkar bahut DUKH hua. #VerySad

A lawyer on Tuesday filed an FIR against the 65-year-old actor for disrespecting Indian soldiers on the national television. Om Puri has now apologized and said,
“I am very embarrassed at what I said and I deserve punishment, not forgiveness.
I first apologise to his (an Uri attack martyr) family, if at all they will forgive me, I apologise to the whole country, the army. I know it’s not justified that you say so much and then think a sorry will make it right.”
Realizing the mistake that he committed, he adds, “I am guilty and I deserve a punishment. I want to be tried by the Army, I should be court-martialled. I want a constructive punishment.”
“The army should teach me how to use weapons and send me on the same site where that brave man was sacrificed himself for the country. I don’t want to be forgiven. I am pleading to the nation I want to be punished.”
It’s almost impossible to overlook the statement that he made. Om Puri has done a variety of films including Gandhi, Maqbool, and Dhoop that happen to be closely woven around the grandeur of India and sacrifices of great men.
The damage has been done. Will the nation accept his apology now?
