Officials Kick Stray Dog That Interrupted IPL Match, Varun Dhawan Slams Incident

There’s undeniable evidence of widespread cruelty towards stray dogs in India. Many resort to using sticks and stones to harm them, inflicting pain and suffering. Moreover, numerous stray dogs endure neglect, with some deprived of essential resources like water and food. This mistreatment reflects a lack of empathy and understanding towards these vulnerable animals.

For example, from the recently held Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) IPL 2024 match on Sunday at Narendra Modi Stadium, a video of a stray dog being kicked and chased away from the stadium has gone viral.

The dog entered the field when Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was about to bowl. This caused a brief pause in the match. Hardik Pandya tried to call the dog towards him but the ground staffer in the stadium chased and kicked the dog out of the field.

The video of the incident was shared on Instagram by an account called ‘streetdogsofbombay’ who slammed the incident.

“During a recent IPL match, a distressing incident unfolded that has shocked many. A helpless dog was seen being kicked and chased relentlessly, highlighting the unfortunate reality of animal abuse that often goes unchecked. What makes this situation even more disheartening is the reaction of some spectators, who not only witnessed this cruelty but also found it amusing, as evidenced by their laughter and sharing of such videos with emojis,” the caption read.

Several people online slammed the distressing incident and asked the officials to come up with better ways to handle such incidents in the future. Here’s a look at some of the reactions to the video:

Varun Dhawan took to his Instagram Stories to share the video and call out the authorities for their shameful behavior as well. He wrote, “Wtf a dog isn’t a football. Also, the dog isn’t biting or harming anyone. Regardless, there has to be a better way.”

People really need to be more compassionate towards animals!
