The army life is one riddled with hardships, yet it is one many dream about. Not just for the respect officers receive nationwide, but many deem army spouses too lead a life with several perks apart from the perils and uncertainty that comes with army life. Yet, a recent video that has since gone viral showcases another side of army life. The man in an army uniform speaks of the manner in which officers and their wives command jawans who hold a low rank.
A video posted on Facebook has the man explaining how wives of senior officers exploit not only the jawans, but even their families (who live with them in the Army family welfare centres).
He also said in the 8-minute long video that –
“The families are put under stress at the family welfare centres and are exploited by the officers’ wives. The soldiers’ women are made to dance in front of the officers’ wives who laugh at them.”
However, the man didn’t reveal either his name or rank or location in the video. But, he seemed to be blaming the British era military rules that assigned low ranking soldiers to each officer to do all the menial jobs like household chores for the officers. He claims that the army wives call the shots at the army welfare centres, who ill-treat jawans and their wives. And if the jawan doesn’t follow their command, their jobs are threatened until they comply.

The jawan says that such “slavery era” rules need to be changed because not only do these rules humiliate our soldiers and their families; but they also hold back the success of military operations.
Although, the authenticity of the claims made in the video isn’t yet approved, if there’s any truth in them, then the real question here is – how is this treatment still allowed in the esteemed infrastructure that is the Indian Army?
