Obama Surprises VP Biden With America’s Highest Civilian Honour In An Emotional Ceremony

With Donald Trump taking the Oval Office on the 20th of January, Barack Obama has just a week left in office as the President of the United States. From ending the Iraq war, eliminating Osama Bin Laden to re-establishing ties with Cuba, Obama would be remembered as one of the most successful US Presidents in history.

Apart from all these achievements, Obama was also America’s first President after the evolution of social media. So his ‘bromance‘ with VP Joe Biden also gathered a lot of attention on the internet. With a few days left in office, President Obama did not forget to honour his deputy and confidant.

In an emotional ceremony, Barack Obama surprised Vice-President Joe Biden by awarding him with the ‘Presidential Medal of Freedom’, America’s highest civilian honour on Thursday. Addressing the event, Obama jokingly said that this gives the internet one last chance to talk about their ‘Bromance’.

“So, Joe, for your faith in your fellow Americans, for your love of country, and for your lifetime of service that will endure through the generations, I’d like to ask the military aid to join us on stage. For the final time as president, I am pleased to award our nation’s highest civilian honour, the presidential medal of freedom.”

Overwhelmed by the heartfelt gesture, VP Biden couldn’t control his emotions and was reduced to tears.

After getting a hold of himself and receiving the medal, Biden immediately fired his Chief-of-staff as a joke for not giving him prior information of the ceremony. Getting on the dais, Biden thanked POTUS Obama in a profound address.

It won’t be incorrect to say that Vice President Biden received the best surprise party in history.
