Novak Djokovic Tests COVID-19 Positive, Apologizes For Tournament Causing Harm

While most sporting events across the globe have been cancelled or postponed, a four-stage charity event named The Adria Tour was organized in Croatia last weekend by tennis player Novak Djokovic.

According to NDTV, after Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki contracted COVID-19, Djokovic himself, as well as his wife Jelena, tested positive for coronavirus yesterday.

CNN reports that the final exhibition match has been cancelled and Djokovic will be self-isolating for the next 14 days. He apologized to everyone for the tournament by sharing the following message on Twitter:

The Indian Express quoted Andy Murray saying,

“It’s not surprising how many people have tested positive after seeing some of the images of the players’ party and the kids’ day. There was no social distancing in place. I don’t think it (Adria Tour) has been a great look for tennis. Coronavirus doesn’t care about who we are or what we do. We need to respect it and respect the rules.”

Several other players have criticized the lack of masks and social distancing during the event.

Hoping for everyone’s speedy recovery, get well soon.
