The increasing number of casualties on the road have forced the authorities to come up with stricter mandates time and again. From levying heavy fines to penalising the culprits, they have tried it all, but have failed to reduce an increasing number of road deaths and fatalities.
Yet again, in a bid to create safer roads in Aligarh, authorities have now stated that two-wheeler riders who arrive without a helmet will be denied petrol at petrol pumps.
Petrol pumps in Aligarh have stopped giving fuel to two-wheeler riders who come without a helmet. The directions for the same had been given by District Magistrate (DM) Chandra Bhushan Singh. pic.twitter.com/AeX3riZGhk

According to reports, the mandate was released by the District Magistrate (DM) Chandra Bhushan Singh and petrol pump owners and workers have started instructing people who come to pumps to always carry a helmet. They have also been turning backs on numerous customers who arrive without a helmet.
While this initiative would result in a marginal business loss for petrol pump owners and could cause inconvenience to riders, it is still attracting massive support from the citizens.
Desi Twitter welcomed the move:

Well, Uttar Pradesh isn’t the first state to implement such a rule in India. Reports suggest, states like West Bengal, Maharashtra and Jharkhand were also instructed to abide by this rule but after a few days of strict scrutiny, the rule fell flat.
We hope that Aligarh authorities take note and enforce the rule long term.
