Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamath recently grabbed headlines after he went against his own advice of renting an apartment over owning a home after buying a place for himself. And now, pictures of his previously rented apartment have gone viral on social media, and not for the right reasons.
The pictures were originally shared by House of Three, the interiors company responsible for decorating Nikhil Kamath’s house. However, a few of the pictures were shared online by Rahul Gonsalves, PhonePe’s head of design who claimed that the interiors of the house are an “absolute travesty”.

In all of this Nikhil Kamath house debate – what is being lost sight of is the absolute travesty that are its interiors.
Ser. You can afford far better interior designers/architects.

The images displayed a highly extravagant style that didn’t sit well with people online. Some were quick to point out the apartment’s chaotic design, with one user comparing it to a haphazard blend of styles. The apartment is lavish, no doubt, but there are too many styles intertwined with each other, not going in any specific direction.
Many were left overwhelmed and were not a fan. Here’s how some of them reacted:
Yes, the choice of wallpapers & furniture is absolutely 3rd class. 5 min of search on Pinterest could find you better options.

I love maximalism but I’d get a migraine living here

damn, there’s so many good interior designers in India so I am shocked at this travesty

A lot of it is pretty lame. It’s not necessary to be rich and to have a refined taste.
That said- it could also be that he’s repurposing furniture that he had in his rented houses over the years.

May be it’s not always about affordability, it can be about ones taste, understanding n perception of design n that too home interiors. You don’t revamp home design as fast as you do app design. It stays for a long, it needs extra care. I don’t see any harmony in above designs.

Oh dear the eyesore in each room ðŸ˜
I have so many questions
Forget design and furniture and wallpaper choices but just how badly put together ðŸ˜â€” Dr. Radhika Tonsey (@radzzzzster) October 23, 2024
It’s taken me a lifetime to realise that affluence doesn’t guarantee good design sense.
Sigh.
Perhaps why some of these interior designers can survive?

Kamath’s apartment has now become a prime example of how even the richest can miss the mark when it comes to design choices!
