Hampi Ranked 2nd In New York Times ’52 Must-See Destinations of 2019′

We don’t need to look far for drool-worthy travel destinations. India is a gift bag full of beautiful places, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. And this has been recently acknowledged by the New York Times. In its recent list of the 52 places to go in 2019, our very own Hampi has made us proud.

You don’t need to look very far as Hampi sits in 2nd place and we are screaming! It is the only place in India to be a part of the list.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hampi is located in east-central Karnataka.

“Hampi thrived as one of the largest and richest cities in the world. Its architectural legacy lives on in the southwestern state of Karnataka with over 1,000 well-preserved stone monuments, including Hindu temples, forts and palaces” – NY Times.

Hampi has been growing in popularity and according to sources has attracted over 5.35 lakh tourists, of which over 38,000 were foreigners, in 2016-17.

The well-preserved stone temples, monoliths, and other architectures are Hindu and have artwork depicting Hindu deities. The monuments are almost 1,600 in number. There are also six Jain temples and monuments and a Muslim mosque and tomb.

Altogether, Hampi is the legacy of the 16th century Vijayanagar Empire.

The New York Times explained how they arrived at the list: “Our annual list combines destinations that are aspirational, newly intriguing and perhaps threatened”.

One of the best place to visit in India based in Karnataka with family and for photography enthusiasts. Hampi is an ancient village in the south Indian state of Karnataka. It’s dotted with numerous ruined temple complexes from the Vijayanagara Empire. On the south bank of the River Tungabhadra is the 7th-century Hindu Virupaksha Temple, near the revived Hampi Bazaar. A carved stone chariot stands in front of the huge Vittala Temple site. Southeast of Hampi, Daroji Bear Sanctuary is home to the Indian sloth bear. . . . #Goprotravel #hampi #hampidiaries #karnatakatourism #karnataka #india #natgeo #architecture_hunter #worldheritage #traveladdicted #traveltogether #soloTraveller #theindianroute #travelphotos #keeptravelling #travelindia #travelholic #travellers #traveladdicts #indiapictures #photographers_of_india #travelsolo #travelstagram #travelbucketlist #travelGuide #backpackersintheworld #traveladdicted #travelagent #travelbloggers
