Every place that you visit in India tends to have its own story. Each city is characteristically different from the other. Each has a different vibe, a different soul almost. If our cities were people, we’d have some pretty interesting characters. And these tweets are proof!
It started when a woman took on Twitter to share a quote by artist John Berger about how different cities have a specific age, sex, and a story to tell.
“Every city has a sex and an age which have nothing to do with demography. Rome is feminine. So is Odessa. London is a teenager, an urchin, and in this hasn’t changed since the time of Dickens. Paris, I believe, is a man in his twenties in love with an older woman.”

The tweet soon went viral, and I’m glad that it did because it triggered netizens to describe their own cities as if they were people. And the result is beautiful! Here’s a look:
1. Mumbai.
Mumbai is an immigrant who sincerely works her ass off, clocking over 60 hours a week and hopes to save up enough to retire in a quiet and quaint home in the countryside. Her aspirations can wait, because there is still so much work to do and rents to pay.

2. Delhi.
Delhi, I think, is lovesick student who still hasn't gotten over his first love and therefore drowns his sorrow in half a bottle of cheap whiskey every night, but he knows he has responsibilities so he gets up next morning, gulps down bitter coffee and goes to his part-time job

3. Gurgaon.
Gurgaon is a woman in her early thirties, spent her childhood in the fields – and suddenly had to grow up and face the world – earn, fight. Today she's a rockstar at work, but everytime she falls asleep on her laptop, she dreams of her bare feet running on a field of wet grass.

4. Mysore.
Mysore is a beautiful woman, royal and charismatic. Had a glorious past, but now wakes up everyday to realise that the past is well behind, and the glory long gone. She lulls slowly waiting for another chapter of her life…

5. Bangalore.
Bangalore is a powder-faced, jasmine scented old grandma who helplessly holds a kerchief up to the traffic. Her memory is Helter-skelter, her skyscrapers are comically misplaced. She snootily bargains with the tarkari saleswomen but compassionately gazes up at jacaranda blossoms.

6. Kashmir.
Kashmir is a beautiful 18 year old orphan girl. Coveted, desired and courted by lecherous 70 yr old men who want nothing more than to devour her soul. Her beauty with her spirit of resistance angers them. Every day she is whipped. Bloodied & battered she becomes more beautiful.

7. Kolkata.
Kolkata, I believe is an idealistic & rebellious young man who refuses to shake corporate hands and instead writes street plays and songs of freedom. He drinks his tea with an ounce of ginger and gazes out of tall windows, almost expecting the pelting rain to turn to a revolution

10. Chennai.
Chennai was a goddess, once adorned with resources and blossoming with culture & economy. Briefly the Queen's subject & gaining self-respect under Periyar, only to be later ravaged & plundered. In its 40s now, with elixir drained & governance derailed, hoping to regain lost glory

11. Pune.
#Pune is an old Know-It-All uncle, who will give his opinion and ideas about everything just to show off how intelligent he is, even if the ideas and opinion are not sought. Well, the advice coming from him are either of no use or unworkable.

12. Coimbatore.
#Coimbatore is a man, an agile young upstart, a go-getter who is sadly overlooked by his peers. But that doesn’t bog him down, he continues to thrive, hope and achieve.

13. Jaipur.
Jaipur, a Maharaja in his 60s: classy, royal but vogue. Steps out in Pink but wears his machismo on the sleeve. He plays polo, hosts cricket, and watches tennis. Quick to become your confidant and invite you to his exquisite palace, but beware, his loyalties change every 5 yrs.

14. Lucknow.
Lucknow is an old, once mesmerizing woman, her body still fragrant with the glorious touches it received over the years, wandering at her long list of past lovers,in melancholy, sometimes in pride, sometimes in regret, sometimes in lust, though knowing well they shall never return !
