‘When Men Start Getting Pregnant, That Day We Will Be Equal’ – Neena Gupta On ‘Faltu’ Feminism

Although advocating gender equality, Feminism has a diverse range of ideologies and perspectives. It can be seen through a lens of empowerment, emphasizing equal opportunities and dismantling patriarchal structures. But feminism can be taken to extreme lengths and border on misandry which can lead to a lot of people dismissing the entire idea of it altogether.

Actor Neena Gupta, in an interview, shared her opinions on feminism and stated that women are not equal to men, and there’s no need to be. Then she went on to say something that hit hard – the day men start to get pregnant will be the day when women will be equal to men.

“I want to say that it’s not necessary to believe in faltu (useless) feminism or the idea that ‘women are equal to men’. Instead, focus on achieving financial independence and giving attention to your work. If you are a housewife, don’t look down on it. It is an important role. Boost your self-esteem and avoid thinking of yourself as small. That’s the main message I want to convey. Additionally, men and women are not equal. The day men start getting pregnant, that day we will be equal.”

She then went on to narrate a story trying to emphasize the fact that women do need men because men have the privilege of being safe wherever they are and their privilege helps women.

“You need a man. I will tell a small story. I had to catch a flight at 6 am. I did not have a boyfriend at that time. I came out of the house at 4 am and it was dark. A man started following me, and I was so scared. I went back to my house and I missed my flight. The next day, I booked the same flight. But I stayed at my male friend’s house and he dropped me off. I need a man.”
