Nana Patekar Gets Clean Chit In Tanushree Dutta Molestation Case, Actress Calls Police “Corrupt”

In 2018, actress Tanushree Dutta had sparked the #Metoo movement in Bollywood after she accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment inside the sets of ‘Horn Ok Pleassss’ back in 2008. She claimed that Patekar tried to touch her inappropriately during a dance sequence and forcefully tried inserting vulgar dance steps into the choreography which were completely unnecessary. Following these claims, a video had gone viral where Tanushree’s car could be seen attacked by a mob, allegedly Patekar fans, while she was inside.

While her accusations led to a massive online movement in India, inspiring innumerable women to open up about their stories of workspace and personal sexual harassment/abuse, how many of those women actually received justice? Because Tanushree herself is far from receiving it.

Mumbai Police has given Nana Patekar a clean chit in the Tanushree Dutta molestation case. According to sources, the Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai filed a ‘B-Summary report’, which is filed when the police do not find any evidence against the accused person to file a charge sheet and seek trial.

“A corrupt police force and legal system giving a clean chit to an even more corrupt person Nana who has been accused even in the past of bullying, intimidation and harassment by several women in the film industry,” Tanushree said.

Tanushree, however, isn’t surprised by it. She says that this is what being a woman in India is like.

“I’m neither shocked nor surprised, being a woman in India this is something we all have got used to. If rape accused Alok Nath got a clean chit and returned to movies, then surely it was not going to be difficult for harassment accused Nana Patekar to get himself, or shall we say buy himself, a clean chit to continue to bully hapless young women,” she said.

Speaking to India Today, Tanushree Dutta’s lawyer Nitin Satpute said that they haven’t received any official information from the Oshiwara Police Station and that they plan on challenging the report in Bombay High Court.

“If the police files any B or C classification of Summary Report, that cannot be final. We can oppose it in court. After the hearing, if the court makes a decision, then again the case can be directed to the police to continue the investigation”, said the lawyer.

He believes that the police has not conducted a proper investigation regarding the case and pointed at a few grey areas:

“Many witnesses have not yet recorded their statement. Shyni Shetty’s statement was recorded partly. The police have not investigated properly, so we are opposing summary reports and we are also going to file a writ petition before Bombay High Court. We will also demand that the investigation be transferred to another agency or CID, Crime Branch”, he said.

About the B-Summar report, Tanushree said:

“Our witnesses have been silenced by intimidation, and fake witnesses have been put forth to weaken the case. What was the rush to file a ‘B summary’ report when all of my witnesses have not even recorded their statements yet?”

However, she wishes for other people to not stop speaking about their #Metoo stories and call out perpetrators on social media.

“Continue to expose these creeps through social media and other platforms so that in future people would think twice before troubling an innocent young girl. I still believe that I will get justice and victory will be mine! How, only time will tell.”

We sincerely hope for justice to be served right. All we can do now is wait for events to unfold!
