Mumbaikars Share Visuals Of Flooding Due To Heavy Rains, People Being Rescued By Boats

The city of Mumbai has been witnessing heavy rainfall and cyclonic winds for the last two days. According to NDTV, South Mumbai’s Colaba area recorded 331.8mm rainfall in 24 hours with wind speeds of up to 107 kmph. A red alert has been issued for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region as homes/shops are getting waterlogged, roads are flooded, trees are getting uprooted and rail transport has been disrupted.

According to Mumbai Mirror, at least 4 people have lost their lives and 3 have gone missing. Landslides on highways, electric short-circuits, and building collapses have also been seen in the last 24 hours. Reportedly, rainwater has entered the premises of Nair hospital and JJ hospital.

Apart from the scary visuals, snippets of relief efforts have also surfaced online. Locals are rescuing stray animals and The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is using boats to save stranded passengers from train and railway stations. 290 people have been rescued from CSMT-Karjat and Titwala-CSMT trains.

Cops have requested everyone to stay indoors.
