Mumbai Gang Honeytraps Businessman Twice In 2 Months, Dupes Him Of ₹ 25 Lakh

Straight men talk a lot about having restraint that’s as strong as the Man of Steel. They refer to themselves as the “sakht launda“. They boast about how strong-willed they are and that none of the materialistic pleasures of Earth can deceive them. However, going by the multiple instances of duping, it’s pretty evident that all it needs is a woman to put all that ego-boosting to rest.

According to DNA, a Mumbai businessman was duped not once, but twice by a group of robbers. A police officer from Gamdevi Police Station said that it first happened in March when the victim received a phone call from an unknown woman.

“The woman insisted the victim to meet her, which the former agreed. The victim then met the caller at a building at Amboli. There were three women present in the said house and were having alcohol. After some time, two people came to the flat claiming to be policemen. They said they have raided the place and the victim will have to go to jail. They demanded ₹ 10 lakh from the victim for not taking any action. A frightened victim then agreed to pay ₹ 5 lakh. One of the accused then traveled with the victim in a local train and came to Babulnath from where the victim withdrew ₹ 5 lakh from a bank and gave to the accused.”

The victim is a resident of Peddar Road. He said that the woman told him that she had received the victim’s number from his friend. And without double-checking that information, the victim began chatting with her regularly.

As if that colossal loss of money wasn’t enough, the victim again fell into a similar trap two months later in May. The police officer said that just like last time, the victim chatted with one of the robbers without doing any background checks.

The woman then called the victim to a flat where three other women were already present who she introduced as her paying guests. While they were having alcohol, the same person who had exploited the victim at Andheri claiming to be a policeman reached the flat stating that the police have raided the said flat as there was a complaint of prostitution. The officer then asked the victim to give his address so that his family can be informed. Frightened, the victim got ready to settle the issue for ₹ 10 lakh. The second male accomplice then accompanied the victim at Babulnath from where the victim paid him ₹ 10 lakh. On July 11, the accused met the victim and demanded more money after which victim gave him another ₹ 10 lakh.”

In his defense, this time he did try to tell the woman (Anita Mistry) that this was a wrong number. But then he got sidetracked and ended up at the woman’s Dahisar residence on May 5th.

After being duped twice within a span of two months, the victim finally sought out some legal advice from one of this friends. It was then when he lodged a police complaint and they got working.

“We checked CCTV footage of the bank from where the victim had made withdrawals and got a photograph of one of the suspects. Meanwhile, we have nabbed Khan, Solanki, and Otagire who claimed to be policemen and also nabbed Sumasti, who had met the victim at Andheri. We are on the lookout for two more women in the case. Those arrested have been booked on charges of cheating, impersonation and criminal conspiracy. The accused people are under police custody.”

Honeytrapping has become a very common phenomenon, especially in the digital age where everyone can fake their identities. But real life isn’t your run-of-the-mill Hollywood movie where people will hook up with you on your first meet. 9 out of 10 times it’ll be the case because that person is trying to rob you. So, stay vigilant and stay safe.
