Mumbai Businessman Dies Two Days After Hair Transplant, Doctors Suspect Allergic Reaction

The quest for stunning locks has been eternal. Today, not just women, but men too crave lustrous hair and resort to ingenious surgical enhancements to achieve it. A businessman from Saki Naka, Mumbai opted for a similar solution.

Shrawan Kumar Chaudhary headed to a private hospital in Chinchpokli on Thursday for the hair transplant. After an uneventful procedure, he went home. However, shockingly, he died two days later.

Chaudhary’s nephew Trilok Kumar spoke of the incident-

“My uncle had taken the driver along and no one from the family was present as he underwent such a long surgery. Around 1pm on Friday, he complained of a severe breathing problem nd his face had swollen up. He died after a day of undergoing treatment at Hiranandani,” Kumar said to TOI.

The 43-year-old was then rushed to Powai’s Hiranandani Hospital. The physician present recognized the symptoms as anaphylaxis and Chaudhury soon went into shock. While a cardiologist was called to revive him, he died on Saturday morning around 6.45 AM.

While the autopsy failed to suggest the reason behind his death, doctors at the hospital believe it was a strong allergic reaction that caused his demise. Shrawan is survived by his spouse and 3 kids with ages ranging between 12 and 18 years. Mumbai police later explained that Chaudhary had implanted 9,500 hair grafts in the procedure that went on for more than 15 hours.

Unusual though it is; sadly, this isn’t the first case of a demise following a hair graft. A medical student in Chennai met a similar fate in 2016 after getting a hair transplant. 22-year-old Santosh also passed away within 48 hours of the procedure involving 1,200 hair transplants, reported NDTV.

While permanent hair grafts are generally deemed safe, there can be complications arising from the surgery. When going in for hair transplants, one must appreciate the risks such as infection, bleeding and possible scarring. Furthermore, the patient could also have an adverse reaction to the grafts or medication used during the procedure. Hence, seeking a doctor’s professional opinion after reviewing your medical history pre-surgery and extensive post-op care is crucial.
