Maha Govt Orders Multiplexes To Allow Outside Food, So Twitter’s Prepping For A Dabba Party!

When Sia sang about Cheap Thrills, one thing that would definitely not make it to the list would have to be watching a movie in a theatre.

I still remember, bunking college to go for those early morning shows, only because the tickets were super cheap. When going with family, it was ensured that everyone had eaten a nice meal beforehand, so as not to be tempted by the delicious smell of popcorn and samosas wafting in the air. It was a totally normal thing to judge those fancy-shmancy people who actually brought nachos, burgers, and desserts in multiplexes. #JustRichThings!

Well, to everyone who found the above instances relatable, here comes some major good news. The Maharashtra government has clarified that multiplexes in the state cannot prohibit patrons from bringing in outside food. Any theatre doing so would be taken strict action against.

The announcement was made by Ravindra Chavan, Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection in response to a motion raised by Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Dhananjay Munde.

In addition, the MRP of items sold in multiplexes will also be reduced to their rightful price after August 1.

This move is in accordance with a Central government’s notification which states that there cannot be two maximum retail prices (MRPs) for one item.

Twitterati seem to have wasted no time in giving their reviews about this ‘blockbuster’ of an announcement.

From hilarious memes to jokes about the kind of food that’s going to be seen from now in theatres, their reactions were a total hit!

Going for the dabba party in multiplexes like….

Business will be booming!

Move over pricey popcorn and samosas!

A lot of people, though, had a legit concern about all that different ghar ka khana assaulting their olfactory senses!

While most people are ecstatic about this freedom to not pay exorbitant sums for theatre food, the new evil that we now must watch out for is cleanliness and the lack of civic responsibility.

Feel free to bring your khana and dabbas, but will you be willing to clean up your mess too? Or will that just be another hit that multiplexes will take? Hiring more staffers to clean up, delayed shows, and no profit from selling their own food.

Guess the scales are still not balanced on both sides.
