Cinema is the reflection of society and with biopics and movies inspired by real-life events, artists can bring to the spotlight several issues and stories that need attention.

The movie ‘Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway’ directed by Ashima Chibber starring Rani Mukerji is also a story that needs to be heard.

Recently, the makers of the movie dropped the official trailer of the movie which will make you sympathize with the mom who fought with an entire nation to regain custody of her two children.

The movie, which is based on the life of a couple named Anurup Bhattacharya and Sagarika Bhattacharya from Kolkata, highlights the fight of Mrs. Chatterjee against the foster care system of Norway who took their two kids, a baby girl and a boy, claiming cultural differences, reported The Economic Times.

Back in 2007, the couple got married and soon welcomed their kids Avigyan and Aishwarya. But sadly, in May of 2011, the couple was separated from their kids by Norway’s government-run Child Protective Services which said that the kids were not being brought up properly by their parents. At that time, Avigyan was three years old, and Aishwarya was one-year-old.

This happened after the officials paid regular visits to the couple at their home and observed their behavior toward their kids. They saw that the kids were handfed by the parents, were sleeping with them, and were also given ‘unsuitable’ clothes and toys, said a report by India Today.

Citing all these reasons, the child welfare services of Norway snatched the kids from their parents and placed them in foster care where they were supposed to stay until they turned 18.

Unable to stay without her kids, the Sagarika decided to fight with the country which also cost her her own marriage. After being at loggerheads with Norway, the authorities transferred the custody of the kids to their father’s brother. Then, the kids were brought to India.
