Even if you were born in the 90s, or belong to the generation ‘Z’, most of us have heard the evergreen song ‘Hawa Hawaii’ from the 1987 movie ‘Mr India’. Late veteran actor Sridevi rocked the vibrant look as she danced to the iconic song. Directed by Shekhar Kapur, the movie was one of the first sci-fi films of the era starring Sridevi and Anil Kapoor in lead roles.
It is one of the classic cult movies where along with the hero, the villain ‘Mogambo’, played by late actor Amrish Puri, is equally remembered by movie buffs.
And we all agree that the cult classic cannot be recreated. But looks like we are soon to witness a remake of the movie. In fact, an epic ‘Mr India’ trilogy, reported HT.
‘Sultan’ director Ali Abbas Zafar in a huge announcement confirmed that the trilogy of ‘Mr India’ is in the pipeline. He further added that ‘no actor has been locked till now’, putting rumours to rest that indicated that Ranveer Singh might play the iconic character of ‘Mr India’ on screen. But looks like people aren’t happy with the news.
Excited to partner with @ZeeStudios_ for an epic trilogy #MrIndia! It is a huge responsibility to carry forward an iconic character loved by everyone. Currently, working on the script, no actor has been locked till now. Once we lock the first draft of the script, casting begins!

Shekhar Kapur, the director of the original movie condemned the trilogy. Replying to a fan who urged him to stop the remake of the movie, Shekhar said that he has no clue about ‘Mr India 2’.
No one has even asked me or mentioned to me about this film called Mr India 2. I can only guess that they using the title to get a big weekend. For they cannot use the characters/story without permission from the original creators of the film. https://t.co/Set5eDH63j

While only a handful of people were excited about the news, many disappointed people also took to Twitter and said that this was a bad idea:
Great news Ali bhai .. Congratulations .. God bless you with all the success 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Being a fan of the #Sridevi, the Biggestest Superstar Universe has seen, this for me is no exciting news. Give me #MrIndia the original Masterpiece Anyday. Open to a 3D version of the same too. Hope that happens someday. #SrideviLivesForever #SrideviIsImmortal @SrideviBKapoor

Please do not remake the epic Mr India. No one can do justice to #Sridevi role. Instead draw a triology based on the #MrIndia concept…..which would be another super hero story who has the power to be invisible.

Not excited at all for this one. Yet, all the best. IMHO, even Boney ji himself shudnt reboot Mr India. Even if it's an ode to The Hawa Hawaai #Sridevi, I wud prefer a 3D re release of the original film & a separate behind scenes / compilation of edited out scenes

However, as reported by TOI, the makers of the film claimed that ‘Mr India’ trilogy won’t be a sequel or remake of the iconic film. The producer of the film had mentioned, “We are excited to have Ali on board for ‘Mr. India’. This is not a part 2 or a remake of the older film as recently reported in some sections of the media, but a reimagining of the iconic classic.”
Well, even if it’s a remake or a reimagining of the iconic classic, we hope it doesn’t mess up the original. What do you think? Tell us.
