The pain of losing a child is inconceivable. Only a mother knows how she handled the loss of a baby she nurtured within her for 9 months. Well, not all parents are lucky enough to reunite with missing or abducted children. But, this lucky mother got the biggest surprise when she discovered that her child (who she thought had died at birth, nearly 30 years ago) was alive.
Tina Bejarano from California gave birth to her daughter Kristin when she was just 17-years-old. However, the very next day Tina’s mother informed her that the baby girl died minutes after she was born.
Tina soon met and began dating Eric Gardere months after she gave birth. She went on to marry him, but the heartbroken mom continued to celebrate Kristin’s birthday every year in memory of her child.
But 30 years later, Tina got an email from a man living in New Jersey who claimed she was his mother. According to Mail Online, both Tina and Kristin had submitted their DNA to a database company who tracks down potential relatives. After their DNA matched, Kristin emailed Bejarano and wrote:
‘I think we need to talk, it says we’re related, and it says you’re my mom.’
The DNA test showed that Tina’s daughter Kristin hadn’t died at birth, but was hale and hearty, living as a transgender man.
According to News18, Tina’s mother ‘was abusive and unsupportive of her pregnancy’, which is why she lied about Kristin’s death. Reportedly, Kristin had been adopted days after her birth and grew up in Las Vegas. But she soon transitioned to a man and is now 29-years-old with a wife and child of his own.
Tina was overjoyed to discover that her child was alive. “I don’t care. I don’t care if he’s in transition. I don’t care if he hasn’t transitioned. I don’t care. That’s my kid,” she said. Her husband Eric was equally elated to hear the news. “We’re just glad he’s alive,” he said. He further added that although Kristin is not his biological child, they have started to bond well. “We’ve been communicating with Kristin for a few months now. He calls me Dad, I call him son, I text him every morning,” said Gardere.
Tina was thrilled to see photos of Kristin’s family that he sent from New Jersey. Kristin now plans to meet Tina with his wife and baby in Los Banos in November.
If this isn’t a miracle, then what is?
