This year’s survey finds that Prime Minister Narendra Modi leads the list of ‘Most Admired Man’ in India, ahead of Ratan Tata, MS Dhoni, and Bill Gates. And Kiran Bedi ranks first in the ‘Most Admired Woman’ category in India, followed by Lata Mangeshkar and Mary Kom.

This year’s poll is said to be the largest ever in its history, The Independent reports. The list was compiled as a result of a survey representing the views of more than 45,000 people across 42 countries and territories. It was conducted with two separate categories for men and women.

The open-ended nominations were taken from January to March 2020. During the fieldwork, the respondents were asked two questions, ‘who do you truly admire’ where they could make multiple selections and ‘who do you MOST admire’ in which picking only one answer was acceptable.

In the global list, Michelle Obama topped the women’s category with Angelina Jolie, Queen Elizabeth II, and Oprah Winfrey closely following her in the top 20 woman’s category. Barack Obama leads the chart in the men’s category with Bill Gates, Jackie Chan, Xi Jinping, and Narendra Modi making it to the top.

Other Indians featured in the global list are Amitabh Bachchan (No. 14), Virat Kohli (No. 16), and Shahrukh Khan (No. 17). In the female category, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, and Infosys Chairperson and charity head Sudha Murty make up the #15, #16, and #17 number spots respectively.

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is the only new addition to the global list this year, while the others have already been featured in the previous years.
