Locals In Karnataka Perform Last Rites & Construct Temple In Memory Of Beloved Monkey

Animal lovers like me would agree that bringing a pet in our lives does have a positive effect on us. They make us smile with their cute and sometimes stupid, innocent acts and that’s what makes us love them even more. But even we don’t pet one, we tend to get emotionally attached to the stray dogs in our street or the cat that lives under the bridge we cross regularly, right?

Residents of this colony in Karnataka also felt this way for a group of monkeys who have entered SVR colony of Channagiri Taluq, nearly three months back. Since then they started living with the residents without creating any ruckus. The monkeys used to peacefully live in the neighbourhood and even played with the children living in the colony, as reported by Business Standard.

But unfortunately, a male monkey from the group died yesterday. The locals who were very fond of the monkey were taken aback with the monkey’s unexpected death who according to them was very obedient like the rest of the tribe. To show their love and respect for the monkey, the locals decided to perform his last rites.

They paid their last respects to the monkey and did the puja according to Hindu tradition. The residents also later approached the president of the village Panchayat to allot funds to build a temple in the memory of the deceased monkey, reported sources. And to everyone’s surprise, the construction of the temple has already begun in the same place where the monkey’s funeral was conducted.

The local’s way to show their respect to their beloved monkey, sure is unusual. Don’t you think?
