Monkey Appears To Give ‘CPR’ To Save Female Friend, Photographer Captures Precious Moment

“A picture is worth a thousand words.” Especially in the case of wildlife photography where capturing animals and birds at a precise moment is not an easy feat. It takes wildlife photographers a lot of time, effort, and dedication to get that one perfect shot.

Speaking of which, a photographer recently snapped an incredible moment where it looks like a monkey is giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to save its friend. Wildlife photographer William Steel managed to capture the Vervet monkey’s image in the Gaborone Game Reserve in Botswana, reports Times Now.

However, while it appears the monkey is giving CPR to a primate lying flat on its back, the reality is far from the truth. Well, the monkey is actually just grooming the female primate. Explaining the image, the 28-year-old was quoted saying by The Sun,

“In what I can only describe as dramatic fashion, the female monkey fell to the floor, with both legs and arms spread out. At first, I couldn’t figure out what was happening, but as I picked up my camera, another monkey came sauntering in grabbing the monkey on the floor by its mouth and seemingly administering CPR. On reflection, I think the performance was all a cry for attention from the female.”

Steel mentioned that bonds among primates are ‘formed largely through grooming’. He added that he has often seen monkeys extending help to nurse the wounds of their friends.
