Recently, singer-songwriter Monali Thakur revealed that she has been married for almost three years now. Yes, you read that right. Monali tied the knot with her German boyfriend, Maik Richter back in 2017, reports Hindustan Times. However, she didn’t speak about her marriage because the ceremony almost didn’t take place.
The Bollywood playback singer was quoted saying, “He thought that he will get a Visa on arrival here, because he had read it somewhere on the Internet. So he was almost thrown out of the country. The day we were supposed to get married, he was kept at the airport like a kaidi.”
Thankfully they did get married on the day they were supposed with the help of the Indian government. Monali said that she’s aware that she has upset her friends and colleagues by hiding the big news. She was quoted by Times of India saying,
“The news of my marriage will come as a shock to many as none of my industry friends were aware or invited. We kept delaying the ceremony and announcement and three years just passed by.”
Divulging details about her romantic proposal, she was quoted saying, “I met Maik during my trip to Switzerland and we clicked instantly. Not just him, I made a connection with his family, too. Maik proposed to me at the exact spot where we had met for the first time, under a tree, on a freezing Christmas Eve 2016. My reply was an instant yes,” she said.
The singer is currently quarantining with her husband and his family in Switzerland. Well, congratulations to the happy couple!
