Meet Manya Singh, Daughter Of A Rickshaw Driver, Crowned Miss India 2020 Runner-up

No matter where you come from, how you look, or what your economic status is, dreams do come true if you work rigorously and passionately towards it. And Manya Omprakash Singh hailing from India’s Uttar Pradesh is testimony to this.

Born to an auto-rickshaw driver, Manya’s journey of becoming the Miss India runner-up 2020 is inspiring and heart-warming. The beauty pageant, VLCC Femina Miss India 2020, that concluded earlier this week saw Telangana’s Manasa Varanasi being crowed ‘Femina Miss India 2020’ while Haryana’s Manika Sheokand bagged the ‘Femina Miss Grand India 2020’ title.

Sharing her story of struggle and hard work with the world, Manya earlier told Femina Miss India that her “blood, sweat, and tears have amalgamated into courage to pursue my dreams.”

She added, “I’ve spent numerous nights without food and sleep. I’ve spent many afternoons walking for miles on end. My blood, sweat, and tears have amalgamated into courage to pursue my dreams. Being a rickshaw driver’s daughter, I never had the opportunity to attend school as I had to start working in my teens. All the clothes I had were hand-me-downs. I yearned for books, but luck wasn’t in my favour. Eventually, my parents mortgaged whatever little jewellery my mother had to ensure that I paid my exam fees in order to earn a degree. My mother has suffered a lot to provide for me.”

She further divulged that she ran away from home at the age of 14. “I somehow managed to complete my studies in the day, became a dishwasher in the evening and worked at a call centre at night. I’ve walked hours to reach places so I could save the rickshaw fare. I am here today at the VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 stage to uplift my father, my mother, and my young brother and to show the world that all is possible if you are committed to yourself and your dreams.”

Several celebs including Former Miss World Manushi Chillar expressed their joy after Manya’s crowning ceremony, reported Hindustan Times.

According to News18, Priyanka Chopra Jonas inspired her to enter the world of beauty. Manya added that she inherited the qualities of never giving up and working hard from her mother. Manya is now preparing for further education in Management Studies.

Manya, you’re truly an inspiration to all of us who give up on our dreams even before working on them.
