Kolkata-Born Miss England’19 Keeps Crown Aside, Returns To Work As Doctor Amid Pandemic

Recently, Ireland’s Prime Minister re-registered as a medical practitioner to offer aid while the world faces the coronavirus crisis. Doctors and healthcare workers across the globe are working tirelessly to fight the pandemic. Hence, some extra help from others is the need of the hour.

Which is why, Miss England 2019, Kolkata-born Bhasha Mukherjee, kept her crown aside to return as a doctor to treat patients suffering from the coronavirus, reports CNN.

Before winning Miss England, Bhasha Mukherjee worked as a junior Doctor in Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, and specialised in respiratory medicine. After winning the crown, she was working as an ambassador for various charity initiatives which demanded her to travel across the globe.

However, as the coronavirus crisis worsened, she felt the need to get back to work as a doctor and help her former colleagues manage the situation.

People quoted her saying:

“When you are doing all this humanitarian work abroad, you’re still expected to put the crown on, get ready…look pretty. I wanted to come back home. I wanted to come and go straight to work.”

“I felt a sense of this is what I’d got this degree for and what better time to be part of this particular sector than now. There’s no better time for me to be Miss England and helping England at a time of need,” she added.

Bhasha Mukherjee had left Kolkata at the age of 9 and her family has been settled in England ever since.

It is great to see people coming together to fight the coronavirus! Kudos to Bhasha Mukherjee for coming to the aid of medical workers and joining the fight!
