For years now, possibly since the very inspection of movies and television even, the industry has been blatantly sexist in every way possible. From the pay gap to the lack of female-centric movies and shows, it took them a long while to start reforming their behaviour. And that too only after extreme protests like #MeToo, dragged these issues to the forefront. Thanks to such movements, things finally seem to be heading in the right direction.
But some old habits seldom change, right? One such habit that the industry really can’t seem to get rid of is asking mind-bogglingly ignorant questions to their actresses. Let me tell you about the latest one that could probably take the prize for the worst one ever.
Star of the Mindy Project and unapologetic badass Mindy Kaling is currently on the press tour of her upcoming movie, Ocean’s 8.
The 38-year-old actress has been nailing it on the work front this year, with Ocean’s 8 being her second high profile Hollywood project after A Wrinkle In Time. She starred alongside Oprah and Reese Witherspoon in that movie, even through a pregnancy and childbirth.

Now while she takes the industry by storm with these amazing ladies, some people just can’t stop themselves from trying to put a wrench in their success.
Coming on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Mindy described one such incident where a male interviewer asked her this ridiculous question:
Yep, he actually said that.
Laughing about the sheer stupidity of the question, Mindy goes on to mock what he was implying with it:
“How you, a famous spinster… how would you… you’ve never been anywhere near a diamond before!”
She adds how according to him if you’re not married or engaged you’ve never even seen a diamond. Seth interjects at this point saying how this man seems to have a fundamental misunderstanding of how acting works as well.

I can’t stop being incredulous at what the man was even thinking when he posed such a question. At this rate, we need to do a detailed investigation of what century this fellow is from. Having said that, you do you, Mindy! In the famous words of Kris Jenner: “You’re doing amazing sweetie!”
