Mercedes And Porsche Showed Class While Wishing Competitor BMW On Its Anniversary

‘Tis the era of competition. Brands big and small vie for the top spot and ultimate customer recognition as they go head-to-head in a battle royale of their own kind. German automobile giants are the biggest example. We needn’t go into the details of how Audi and BMW upped their ante when they chose to aim jabs at each other in 2009.

This year, BMW celebrated 100 years, and Mercedes wished them in their best way.

Mercedes, keeping aside their rivalry (somewhat), published a large newspaper advert, showcasing BMW’s signature car grills, with the message which, translated in English, reads as, “Thanks for 100 years of competition. The previous 30 years were somewhat dull.” Corny, but Mercedes came out as the bigger person here but also established their supremacy in the side.

Porsche also wasn’t one to hold back and wrote a heartfelt message for BMW.

Porsche featured their electric car concept, titled the Mission E, along with BMW’s equivalent, the i8. Porsche’s was a kinder message. It read, “The future presents us with great challenges. We face them with sheer driving pleasure. Porsche bows to 100 years of moving automobile history and wholeheartedly congratulates BMW on this jubilee.”

The Germans once again show what they’re best at: Manners.

Fierce rivalry, top-notch engineering, and competition through the roof, these superpowers have been in a battle of forces long before most of us were even conceived. The Germans know to be good at everything they do and this gesture proved it once again.

Business and competition. Everything flourishes when it’s done in the spirit of the game.

Happy 100th, BMW!
