If you were to ask a woman, you would know that not a day goes by when women are not scared of being sexually harassed on the road or in public transport. Women’s safety is a significant issue in our country without much rectification.
However, when two men in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas allegedly sexually harassed several women on the road, to the extent that many women were scared to come out of their homes, the police decided to take matters into their own hands. According to NDTV, the MP cops made the two guys do sit-ups on the road and also gave them a beating as punishment for sexually harassing women.
The men also harassed a lady constable, allegedly.
“The two were catcalling women passing by and made it difficult for them to step out of their houses. We had to do this to set an example that such behavior towards women will not be tolerated,” said lady constable Manisha.

Many people online lauded the police’s prompt action and said that it was a well-deserved punishment for the culprits. However, few others begged to differ saying that physical punishment isn’t enough to eradicate such behavior. Potential sexual predators need to be counselled to rid them of such tendencies.
every state govt should follow this, Women / Child and citizen safety should be the responsibility of every state govt. https://t.co/LxQm493UjF

They need to be reprogrammed- they clearly don’t know the impact of what they did and why is it not appropriate. Punishment alone is not enough to prevent reoccurrence. They need to attend mandatory counseling session
