5 Men Break Into Gujarat Restaurant, Cook Food, Eat & Leave Amid Lockdown

The country is currently facing a massive economic crisis where crores of people have been left unemployed, and uncountable others are starving. We recently heard the plight of such people after a BBC journalist interviewed a family of migrant labourers who had been walking for 6 days to reach their hometown.

In another such incident, 5 people broke into Ahmedabad’s famous restaurant ‘Gajanan Parotha House’ to cook themselves some food. According to TOI, they cooked some rice and potato curry for themselves, ate it, and left the kitchen neatly without stealing a single item.

Speaking to Ahmedabad Mirror, the owner of the restaurant said:

“The people who broke in started cooking food in the kitchen. They used flour and potatoes to cook. They also opened a can of oil and used ghee as well. After having the meal, they packed the rest of the food to eat later.”

The owner suspects that the five men entered from the roof at night around 10.30 PM, taking advantage of the empty streets due to the lockdown. He didn’t file a complaint because the men didn’t steal anything. When he entered the kitchen the next day, he just found 5 used plates lying around.

Shedding more light into the incident, the owner’s brother said:

“The CCTV installed at the eatery captured 3-4 men scan the place with a torch. When they spotted the CCTV, they disconnected it. In the few seconds of footage that is available, the face of only one youth is available. The others who accompanied him have not been captured on camera.”

The CCTV footage of the incident has been posted on Twitter:

It is heartbreaking to see the kind of hardship such people have to endure during the lockdown. We can only hope and pray for things to get better soon!
