It’s because somebody in Japan paid a whopping 5 million yen i.e Rs 31.6 Lakh to buy two high-quality musk melons presented in an auction! Known for their orange pulp and immense sweetness, the Yubari melons are a specialty fruit harvested in Yubari, Hokkaido, a city in Japan.

The traditional auction of agricultural products in Japan begins during mid Summer, reports NDTV. Around 1000 species of Yubari melons were a part of the auction where the two cantaloupe variety-melons bagged the highest bid!

Were the lucky buyer to have a desi mother, all hell would have broken loose on him!

Talking about the auction, Yoshihiro Iwata, president of the company said that they wanted to show their appreciation to the farmers of Yubari melons, reports Asahi.

“We received an honorable price and a high evaluation of Yubari farmers. We want to protect the melon as our city’s asset to revitalize the city,” Yubari Mayor Tsukasa Atsuya said.

The melons will be on display for the public from today i.e May 27 to May 29, 2019. Go visit! ?

What’s your take on the deal? I wish I could taste the million yen melons and decide if they are worth it!
