Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many companies have been left short-staffed and employees are feeling more work pressure than ever before. And while having a stable income is a blessing, but the urge to quit has always been there for several workers due to reasons like working overtime on weekends and office politics.
Recently, a McDonald’s employee left a note on the fast-food chain’s drive-thru that reads: “We are closed because I am quitting and I hate this job.” Check it out:
I spoke with the staff at this McDonald's today. It turns out the sign was put there by a night shift manager who suddenly quit, and it was left up over night.

This led to a discussion on how this note was reflective of the pressures faced by employees, especially workers of the hospitality industry during the pandemic.
Workers were already stretched to their limits before the pandemic. Of course people are going to break down under these conditions.

Wait, did they seriously have a shift of ONE PERSON at an entire mcdonalds such that one person quitting mid-shift shut it all down?
I’m willing to believe that, but my goodness, the sheer amount of neglectful staffing involved…!
Whoever walked off from that crap is great!

Some people shared their own similar experiences.
I work at MickeyDongs and the managers that run it are petty, passive aggressive, its a very toxic environment, no working a/c AND get verbally abused daily by customers.. I’ve developed heart problems from eating the food daily. I cry daily. I feel like I’ll die on the clock.

Feels. I manage an auto shop. Ten bays. We have 1 technician. I’m a manager and I’ve been working on cars for months. I dont even get paid to work in the back.

Many supported the employee’s decision of quitting.
Can’t blame them, working in fast food really does suck. For all the crap we have to put up with isn’t worth the money we are paid.

Man, I would’ve loved to roll up and be like “YES GIRL YOU QUIT” and then drive away into the night.

While some argued that the wage provided is not adequate, others were of the opinion that it cannot be compared to other careers and that automated machines could soon replace the workers if they decide not to continue.
Theres a difference between a start up job and a career.

This is the kind of thinking of somebody who has never worked at McDonald's or any customer service job where you are underpaid and understaffed 24/7 but also expected to keep up with the hundreds of people a shift, who also tells said people to get another job if they complain.
