A while back, Mansa police (Punjab) decided to deliver cakes to the homes of children celebrating their first birthday during the lockdown. In other parts of the country, cops surprised elderly residents living alone with sweet treats as their families couldn’t be with them.
According to India Today, Olympian boxer Mary Kom’s son also received a cake for his 7th birthday yesterday. Hindustan Times reports that the officers from Tughlaq Road police station (Delhi) led by ACP Pragya Tiwari were part of the celebration.
Thank you @DCPNewDelhi for making this birthday so special for my younger son Prince Kom.

However, the gesture received mixed reactions on social media. While some lauded the cops for bringing a smile on a child’s face, others believed that the resources would have been better utilized if used to help migrant workers and their kids.
This is so loving ❤️🙏🏻

It is nice to see but it is too much for a gesture..
A whole police team coming to celebrate a kid's birthday with video shooting and all..
If this amount of gesture was shown for all migrant workers and their hungry childrens then those many people did not had to die and suffer— Nausherwan Shaikh (@sheru92786) May 14, 2020
Don't spend the tax payers money like this. Their are migrant workers on the road. Hungry and destroyed. Support them. Humble request…

Do you guys agree with the latter that the boxing legend should’ve refused to a celebration in solidarity with the migrant workers as a public figure? Or was it normal for her to be grateful for the gesture as a mother?
