There comes a time in every person’s life when they watch their best friends get hitched. The one person who used to be close to you, someone who you’ve probably known your whole life, someone you’ve shared everything with…they’re finally getting married off to the person of their dreams, and you’re more than happy that you’re sharing this joy with them. But, even though you’re so happy for them, you sometimes feel like you’re losing them because their priorities change, and you have to start dealing with it.
Following are the struggles of having a married best friend.
1. Your alone time with your best friend is immediately reduced
Of course, the priorities are slightly different now. Sigh.
2. Often, when you call them, they’re busy
Nope, no more random conversations at 2 a.m.
3. Discussions about random things turn into more serious discussions about life
Where did the senseless conversations go?
4. It’s not just ‘her/him’ anymore, it’s ‘him and her’ now
Their stories, their highs and lows…it all has company now.
5. Your priorities while shopping together aren’t similar anymore
While you’re out looking for some lovely clothes, your best friend is looking for home decor, clothes for their spouse, etc.
6. If you’re the unmarried one, they’re always convincing you to tie the knot
“Married life is the best.”
7. So, meaningless checking out people isn’t the same anymore
They’re not interested anymore, for obvious reasons.
8. You start trying to become better acquainted with their spouse
9. Meeting up for lunch often turns into a 3 person thing
You, your best friend, and their spouse.
10. And social gatherings involve you and your best friend’s spouse with other couples
There is a tiny feeling of awkwardness of you being the single one among them.
11. Sometimes, you feel sidelined with all the things happening in their life
You wish to have all of your friend, when all you get is a small piece.
12. On the upside, you get more comfortable doing things alone
And you make more efforts to talk to other people.
13. If you hit it off with their spouse, you end up with another friend
And the three of you can have some wonderful time together. 🙂
14. Your best friend’s way of living coaxes you to get out there and find someone
And you start making small efforts, if not big ones.
15. And when you finally decide to tie the knot, there will be none as happy as your best friend
You can thank them later. 😉
