Ever since I was a kid, I loved waking up early and watching the Republic Day parade on TV. It put a visual to what I’d read in school textbooks about India’s history. This 26th January, there’s another facet of independence being showcased in the form of the movie Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi. Kangana Ranaut plays the warrior queen who was a critical part of The Indian Rebellion of 1857 against the British East India Company.
Manikarnika’s teaser was well received and raised everyone’s expectations for the film. There were some bumps along the way courtesy Karni Sena but the film has hit the theatres today. So, what’s the verdict? Did Kangana’s directorial debut please the audience? Here’s the summary in 15 tweets. Have a look.
Rani Lakshmibai is a symbol of valour and courage and most people thought the film did complete justice to her heroic story. The war scenes were powerful enough to stir emotions and leave the audience speechless. A few even predicted that Kangana is a sure shot winner for a National Award.

The film doesn't attempt to fake feminism but rather provides enough instances as it builds momentum.
Tight screenplay & it shows as d film captures a sensitive side to d male characters & strongly portrays common women of d era, who were part of d rebellion. https://t.co/U7733ij1vN— Kangana Ranaut Trivia (@kanganafiles) January 24, 2019

Speech-less! It will take a while for the extreme rush of emotions to settle down after watching this GEM #Manikarnika
Kangana puts up such a marvellous act that after a point it's difficult to differentiate between Rani Laxmibai & herself.

As with all movies, there were some who weren’t impressed. The main point of contention was the lead actress’ dialogue delivery. A few felt it was melodramatic. The first half was slower than expected which didn’t go down so well with Bollywood buffs.

What a pathetic movie #Manikarnika is…How critics like @taran_adarsh @kamaalrkhan can praise this absolute average movie…
Bad direction slow screen-play fake vfx and too bad dialogues…
And this movie cannnot recover it's amount so it will be a Flop#ManikarnikaReview 1.5⭐— Bollywood trolls (@trollingzart) January 24, 2019
No doubt Kangana Ranaut is excellent but feeling sorry for Manikarnika!
Poor script, too much of Melodrama! #ManikarnikaReview #manikarnikathequeenofjhansi #KanganaRanaut pic.twitter.com/IroYGQOyIV

1)The film can’t match the epic scale of BAHUBALI orPADMAAVAT.
2)Inept CGI work, especially in the battle scenes.
3) Manikarnika is unforgivably long.
4)The actor in her undermines the director. Because the actor becomes larger than the narrative#Manikarnika #ManikarnikaReview https://t.co/X3klV9IF93— LEO (@leox9x) January 25, 2019
All in all, the film did manage to portray the power and grandeur of that era by showing a glimpse of India’s revolt. The battles, the sacrifices and the heroes.
