Imagine this. You don’t have to wake up early to get ready for work. No untimely conferences and long client calls. No boss ki chik chik but you still get paid. Sounds amazing, right? But is it possible?
Well, a guy from Italy enjoyed this liberty for 15 long years.
According to a report by BBC, a hospital employee in Italy has been accused of skipping work for 15 years despite being paid.
The man identified as Salvatore Scumace, who worked at Pugliese Ciaccio hospital in the southern city of Catanzaro, allegedly stopped coming to work since 2005, the year he was assigned a job in the hospital. However, he was paid a total of 5,38,000 euros (Rs 4,90,00,000 approx.) in the course of 15 years.
Calling him the “king of absentees”, Fox News reported that Scumace along with six managers at the hospital is being investigated for fraud, abuse of office, and extortion. The managers have been accused of helping him pull the act and not take any action against him.
Moreover, the 67-year-old worker is also accused of threatening the hospital’s former Director to keep her from reporting him. After the director retired, Scumace continued to skip work, and surprisingly, neither human resources nor the head of the hospital noticed his absenteeism.
This came to light after the cops suspected fraud in the Italian public sector and started a lengthy investigation.
