Man Saves Woman’s Life By Copying CPR Lesson That He Had Learnt From ‘The Office’

I have always been of the opinion that movies and TV shows can teach people a lot about moral and ethical life lessons through their stories. In addition to that, they can also educate people about the craft, in case they want to venture into that profession.

However, for the first time, I’m learning that a purely comedic TV show like ‘The Office’ can teach someone to successfully save someone’s life.

We’ve seen a bunch of dramatic CPR sequences in movies and TV shows. But, according to Tucson, it was the one from ‘The Office’ that came to Cross Scott’s mind when he found a woman unconscious in her car. He said,

“I’ve never prepared myself for CPR in my life. I had no idea what I was doing.”

Scott, who works at a tire shop, was test-driving a customer’s car when he saw a white sedan with its hazard lights on. He pulled up in front of the car and saw the woman inside was unconscious. While he banged on the window to wake her up, two other women pulled over and called 911.

However, since there was no response from the woman, Scott broke the car window, unlocked the door and realised that he had to perform CPR on her. And then he started singing “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees.

Now, those who haven’t seen the episode of ‘The Office’ might be wondering why would he do that? And those who’ve, might be wondering the same because that episode was actually a hilarious tutorial on what not to do while saving someone’s life. However, it got one thing right and that was the song, which served as the correct tempo for chest compressions.

You can check out the CPR lesson from ‘The Office’ here:

Scott’s procedure got the woman, Carla, breathing before the paramedics arrived and took her to the hospital. The authorities said that if he hadn’t helped, then things could’ve gone very differently. In addition to that, Scott was lauded by his co-workers and his method was approved by the exec. director of the Red Cross Southern Arizona chapter.

CPR training is important for everyone to have. And in case you don’t have the money or time to do so, watch more movies and TV shows. You never know what skill you’ll pick up.
