Alabama Man Quarantines Himself On Disney’s Abandoned Island, Gets Arrested

Most of us are practising home-quarantine with our families, although we really wished we could have stayed with our friends on a remote island and spent the lockdown like these BFF grandmas. Or probably at a luxury hotel like this Thai King.

Staying alone at such testing times can be difficult. Hence, this man from Alabama decided to quarantine himself on Disney’s island.

According to NDTV, the Orange County Sheriff’s deputies found Richard McGuire on Disney’s Discovery Island on Thursday after a security guard saw him using a company boat.

Following her complaint, Orange County Marine deputies used a ‘public address system’ to inform McGuire that he was not allowed on the abandoned island of the Walt Disney World. However, he still remained on the island. The deputies then started searching for him on foot, by boat and by air and later arrested him, reports NY Times.

The 42-year-old, however, said that he could not hear officers searching for him as he was asleep inside a building. The arrest report also stated that McGuire claimed that he wasn’t aware that it was a private island and that it looked like a ‘tropical paradise’. Although there were several ‘no trespassing’ signs and multiple locked gates in the property.

McGuire told the authorities that he had been on the island since Monday or Tuesday, and had been planning to camp out there for a week. He has been charged with a ‘misdemeanour for trespassing’ and banned from all Disney properties.

The ‘Discovery Island’, that was previously called ‘Treasure Island’, was reportedly closed to the public in 1999.

On a lighter note, I don’t blame McGuire. We all, at some point, wanted to stay at our favourite amusement park and never go back home, right? McGuire might be thinking, ‘Disney island me rahunga mai, ghar nahi jaunga mai.’ LOL!
